LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS OPENS TONIGHT JANUARY 13, 2006!

The NW Savoyards, best known for presenting classic musicals and operettas, get a little funky with the second production of the 2005-2006 season.

"Little Shop of Horrors" is everyone's favorite boy-meets-girl, plant-eats-world phenomenon. The popular musical, written by Howard Ashman and Alan Menchen, features rock-inspired tunes from the "doo-wop" era to tell its story of hope, heartache and hunger.

Meek, mild-mannered, down-on-his-luck Seymour Krelbourn has just discovered an exotic little plant with a strange and unusual appetite. The plant is growing remarkably fast-- and so is Seymour's love for Audrey, his co-worker at the flower shop. But she has a boyfriend, and the plant has a bloodthirsty secret that threatens the entire planet. The feeding frenzy begins as Seymour becomes a celebrity and the plant becomes a larger-than-life sensation.

"Little Shop of Horrors" is based on the 1960 Roger Corman film of the same name. The musical had its world premiere in New York on May 6, 1982, where it ran for an unprecedented 2209 performances. In 1986, the popular movie version starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin hit the big screen. The stage play offers a few additional twists, new songs, and even an alternate ending.

The fun musical will be presented for four weekends at the PUD Auditorium, with performances Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays January 13 - Fedurary 5. Prices are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors, students and military personnel, and $10 for kids 8 and under. Save $2 on tickets for groups of 10 or more by calling our special group and subscriber ticket line at (425) 953-1413. BOTHELL CITY COUNCIL ADOPTS TRANSITORY ACCOMMODATIONS ORDINANCE

At its last meeting in 2005, the Bothell City Council adopted an Ordinance regulating Transitory Accommodations, which amends the Bothell Municipal Code, Zoning to establish regulations concerning Transitory Accommodations including, but not limited to, homeless encampments. Examples of other uses to which the regulations would apply include multi-day music festivals, or car/motorcycle rallies at which participants may desire to camp for the event's duration.  This Ordinance went into effect on Dec. 28.

"The Bothell City Council went through an extremely thorough public involvement process," said City of Bothell Community Development Director Bill Wiselogle. "This was a very tough issue for the Council, and the City now has an Ordinance in place that strikes a very good balance between humanitarian objectives and community security concerns. The City of Bothell thanks all citizens who were involved in this arduous task."

Highlights of this Ordinance include, but are not limited to:

  • Prior to permit application, organizations desiring a Transitory Accommodations permit are required to contact any school or day care within 600 feet of the proposed site and address any concerns by those organizations;
  • All Transitory Accommodations must be set back from other properties "a sufficient distance so as not to impinge upon or otherwise unduly influence activities on said adjacent properties, and in no case less than 20 feet (unless the adjacent property owner waives the setback);
  • All Transitory Accommodations must be screened from view;
  • All Transitory Accommodations must provide adequate parking so as not to reduce parking utilized by existing surrounding uses;
  • All Transitory Accommodations may be in operation for no more than 90 days, consecutively or cumulatively, during any 12-month period;
  • Where deemed necessary by the City of Bothell Community Development Director or City of Bothell Police Chief, all Transitory Accommodations would be required to obtain verifiable identification from current and prospective residents as appropriate, and to use that information to obtain warrant and sex offender checks from the King and/or Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

Over the course of 2005, an eight-member Transitory Accommodations Citizens Advisory Committee (TACAC), supported by City staff, assisted the City of Bothell Planning Commission to craft proposed Code amendments addressing Transitory Accommodations that then were presented to City Council for consideration.
