Snohomish (sno-HOH'-mish) County is located in northwest Washington State, nestled between the sparkling blue waters of Puget Sound and the rugged, snow-capped peaks of the Cascade Mountains. Snohomish County begins 12 miles north of Seattle, a little under 100 miles south of Vancouver, and a short ferry ride away from the San Juan Islands or Olympic Peninsula; Snohomish County is ideally situated for exploring the entire Pacific Northwest.
Snohomish County's largest city and seat of county government, Everett sits on the shores of Port Gardner Bay, gazing at the majestic Olympic Mountain range. Everett was established in 1891 when John D. Rockefeller and other Eastern developers met to plan their "New York City" of the West. Today, many historic buildings line streets which are named for its early developers, Rockefeller, Wetmore, Colby, and Hewitt.
A natural peninsula surrounded by nature’s beauty on three sides, Everett on the east side features bustling wetlands and reserves showy with abundant marsh life captured between views of the Cascade mountain range and the Snohomish River. Many areas along the lazy, winding Snohomish River were once known for Native American villages, lumber mills, and today thrive as idyllic art-haven neighborhoods. Everett on the west side features astounding sunsets watched by patrons visiting a rapidly growing marina area sampling culinary specialties from around the world. The peninsula’s tip faces one of the nations few, still-active lumber mills.
Within the greater Everett area you’ll find startups thinking big and Fortune 500 companies delivering larger-than-life global innovations. Everett is home to the Boeing Co.’s largest worldwide manufacturing complex, its wide-body jet program and its newest commercial jetliner, the 787. At the heart of rapidly growing Puget Sound technology communities, Everett anchors the north end of the nationally known Technology Corridor.
