Business Relocation

Companies seeking to expand or relocate are drawn to the Everett area for its beauty, as well as its technology communities, plentiful amenities, quality of life and reasonable real estate prices.

Businesses find more open land here for manufacturing or office facilities, less traffic than the more congested Seattle area and a lower cost of living for employees. Employers also find a highly educated workforce and easy access to research institutions.

Just ask the Boeing Co.

Everett is the proud home of the Boeing Co.'s 747, 767, 777 and 787 commercial jetliner programs. Boeing, its supplier companies and the technology centers that support them have made Everett an aerospace center of excellence.

The companies and work force that make up Snohomish County's aerospace community are a vital and valued part of the county's economic life. Parallel development of core technology communities - biotechnology, software development, telecommunications, computer design and manufacture, electronics engineering -provide a broad and diverse base of economic activity and prosperity.

More and more companies are recognizing the benefits of doing business in Everett. Snohomish County grew by 30 percent from 1990 to 2000. In addition to Boeing, Snohomish County is the proud home of thousands of entrepreneurs, small-to-medium businesses and larger employers such as Intermec Technologies, Verizon, Fluke Corp., ATL and Kimberly-Clark.

The development of Paine Field and the Technology Corridor, enhancements to the Port of Everett waterfront and many other projects provide a balanced and diversified economy. Today, firms that might otherwise select a more densely populated area are discovering a less expensive, less congested, business-friendly environment in Snohomish County.

Employment

Everett is the center of the region's economic base, which includes an expanding high-technology community; a deep-water port accessing the Pacific Ocean, an world-renowned manufacturing core, a state-of-the-art naval station and a strong spirit of entrepreneurialism.

Once dominated by the aerospace industry, Snohomish County businesses now include high technology, biotechnology, retail, manufacturing and other industries. Boeing's decision to build its next-generation of commercial jetliner, the 7E7, in Everett, positions Snohomish County well to remain the center of aerospace research and design for decades to come.

Manufacturer-Friendly

Even as its technology communities have grown, Everett and Snohomish County have fostered business-friendly environments for manufacturing companies by creating partnerships that help business efficiency. For example, the 1997 Subarea Plan and Planned Action permit process helps expedite permitting for industrial and high-technology uses. Since its adoption in 1997, many projects have been approved without additional environmental reviews.

Kimberly-Clark, for example, exemplifies the type of effective partnerships that are becoming Snohomish County's trademark. In this case, the association between Kimberly-Clark and the Snohomish County Public Utility District has produced a co-generation plant that uses 800,000 tons of wood waste each year to produce enough electricity to serve 21,000 homes. Benefits of the co-generation plant include reduction of fossil-fuel use, elimination of waste through burning as fuel, and reduction of both electrical rates and emissions.
